As part of Midsouth Independent Group (MIG), fellowship-trained pulmonary specialist Joy Burbeck, MD, provides comprehensive care to patients throughout Memphis, Tennessee, who are struggling with lung disorders such as asthma, COPD, and lung cancer.
Dr. Burbeck earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, before pursuing her medical degree at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine before furthering her training through a Pulmonary Care/Critical Care fellowship, also at the University of Tennessee. During her fellowship, Dr. Burbeck took on additional responsibilities as Chief Pulmonary Fellow.
Throughout her career, Dr. Burbeck has had the privilege of being recognized for her work and dedication to her profession. She was given the John Runyan, MD, Ambulatory Medicine Teaching Award, repeatedly made the Dean’s List at the University of Memphis, and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, an academic honor society. Dr. Burbeck also served as the Director of Trinity Hospice House for several years and held the position of Chief of Medical Staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Collierville.
Understanding the importance of staying up to date with the latest advances in her field, Dr. Burbeck has made it a priority to be a lifelong learner. She is an active associate member of the American College of Chest Physicians as well as the American College of Physicians.
